This is one of my friends on LJ's art, I can't fucking believe how good he is!!! Makes me want to draw tiger striped women with orange fuzzy creatures on their heads.

owls

Jesse and I got in to the holiday art fair, so I've begun doing drawings to possibly make cards or prints of.

Here is a little one of a bunch of wise owls up in a thousand year old tree.

SCX REVIEWED!

Wowza! Justin Giampoli from Poopsheet Foundation made a really nice review of the Secret Comix first issue!

"Kira Mardikes’ very fine lines and effervescent figures are rich with detail; they remind me of Kevin O’Neill’s thin angular style. She particularly captures the loud conflagration and clashing of multiple personalities in the diner sequence well. The varied demographics are a representative hub of the characters you can meet in life within a single neutral place, with some of the people lost in their own thought. All of the participants are unaware of the other parties and not privy to their entire thought process. I enjoyed the notion of a blind secret rendezvous and how the characters seemed to be searching for human connection in a big city, not retreating into isolation. It had a similar feel to one of the themes in the Paul Haggis film Crash. This was really engrossing and I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. More information can be found at: www.secretcomix.com. Grade A."

Thank you Justin and Rick Bradford!

new con and eyeball

testin..testing... I am going to take two animation classes next semester! It's exciting business, and I'm going to take more seriously and try not to overload myself with classes next year. This is just a silly thing I made while playing with flash today.

Other news, I went to C2E2 earlier and felt a bit ripped off. I was entirely dwarfed by the building and fluorescent lighting. One of the only thing I was excited to find was Cursed Pirate Girl by Jeremy Bastian. It's a comic he's made that is drawn in high detail; all traditional with many disgusting old men caricatures and powdered wigs. And it was fun to see Peter Mayhew <3 who I got all fluttery about since I have been such a huge SW fan.

Anyone think of a short I should animate?

sicklin picklin

still stuck to the couch sick, but I'm medicated now so hopefully I'll be back on my heels this weekend in time for comic class! I've just been sitting on my ass for two weeks so there's not much news, except I've been really enjoying Julie Doucet's My Secret Desire and much of Aline Kominsky-Crumb's work. I'm working on a long research paper of interesting autobiographical women's comic creators. I've got a long list and personal interviews by me or my friends with three of the artists so far.

Here's something from my sketchbook I made a couple weeks ago when Jesse and I were taking the long greyhound ride from Missouri to Chicago.

shy-city

I recently obtained a new love ♥

His name is Matt Furie and he makes me laugh with his comic "Boys Club".

These are his paintings taken from his website. His comics are great because they have that awkward boys who don't get action vibe, but not in that Jud Apatow way which was tiring in the first 10 minutes of one of his movies; the videogames and weed are super charming in Boys Club!

I am currently working on designing action figures. Look out!
And I've been up to stuff.

Mrs. Look around at the Trees

I've come home briefly for the winter and here are some photos taken. The first of Hollywood Theater on Sandy, and the second at teacup lake on Mt. Hood. The sky has been so clear, one can see the mountain range in the distance from the west hills.

The comic is worked on daily, though it is not ready for publication by any means.
Here is a short animation we are working on related to Blue Rose:
