Debauchery in the cellar.
Locked up but the blinds shift uneasily
people are oscillating upwards
geese honks in the park.
Altogether needs they shift constantly
sidewards move the beings body
tired sit along a bench
buzzing fingers on the horizontal
Three eyes blink simultaneously
the two close for good.
And the third wakes drowsily.
Creepers, maskers, foiled and fond
of being objects not tools. Practiced at slowly
shutting down and degrading
in order to torment us.
But they are us. Isn't that wonderful?
People torment themselves. Doing so they
hopefully realize that they are not in the right
place in the right time as the
right person. Then maybe they can get help.
Instead of believing that everything else is the cause.
Call out to others.
Even if you are maniacally insecure and silly
and foolish and a wild creature!
Be that.
Own up to it and the
caffeine and habits and damaging shit that's fun to do,
At least in memory.
Who is wise?
All shimmers with dew All glimmers
with starlight and black stone
and things flame up from fields of red soil
and lay about
panting lovingly at the insanity of the asphalt heat
and smokey indoor shop
that should close up this time of year. But all is sweaty.
Or cool detached poolside
winter side bundled
freezing stomach ache
crampleg living
cooler night
coldest freeze
hoarfrost frogs
and rain.
I love debauchery
wanderings and drawings by a northwest shapeshifter livin it up in Chi-city.

Geof Darrow talk and North Pond
Last week I rushed over to DePaul university to see an open talk with Geof Darrow and the councilor Zak Mucha along with the autobiographic web comic artist Keiler Roberts. Zak Mucha talked about his work on the graphic novel Heart Transplant with Andrew Vachss and Frank Caruso.
If you don't know who Geof Darrow is he does this crazy shit: http://www.leahfaust.com/fausthaus_blog/miller_darrow1.jpg
It was a little slow, and it seemed like it was hard to get Geof to open up, maybe because he is a wizard and doesn't need inspiration or reference images.
Here's some scrawly notes I took incase someone's interested.

Found this article written by Mucha about Darrow, too if you are interested in deeper backstory on Geof: http://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/the-man-who-drew-the-matrix/Content?oid=921463
Now me!
The cosmos has been playing this week, and it's been a wild one. Only 3 more weeks until spring semester is done! I went to North Pond yesterday wander alone in some nature.
Can you count the turtles?

I had a lovely time, and am going to try to volunteer at the Nature Museum's butterfly room.
Here is a weird self-portrait I did late at night:

By the way, Christos Anesti!

SCX REVIEWED!
Wowza! Justin Giampoli from Poopsheet Foundation made a really nice review of the Secret Comix first issue!
"Kira Mardikes’ very fine lines and effervescent figures are rich with detail; they remind me of Kevin O’Neill’s thin angular style. She particularly captures the loud conflagration and clashing of multiple personalities in the diner sequence well. The varied demographics are a representative hub of the characters you can meet in life within a single neutral place, with some of the people lost in their own thought. All of the participants are unaware of the other parties and not privy to their entire thought process. I enjoyed the notion of a blind secret rendezvous and how the characters seemed to be searching for human connection in a big city, not retreating into isolation. It had a similar feel to one of the themes in the Paul Haggis film Crash. This was really engrossing and I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. More information can be found at: www.secretcomix.com. Grade A."
Thank you Justin and Rick Bradford!

Here are some amazing websites for the wanderer to check out. I am going to leave them as vague as possible, for I prefer the travel in the interwebs to be very mysterious. I hope you do to.

new con and eyeball
testin..testing... I am going to take two animation classes next semester! It's exciting business, and I'm going to take more seriously and try not to overload myself with classes next year. This is just a silly thing I made while playing with flash today.
Other news, I went to C2E2 earlier and felt a bit ripped off. I was entirely dwarfed by the building and fluorescent lighting. One of the only thing I was excited to find was Cursed Pirate Girl by Jeremy Bastian. It's a comic he's made that is drawn in high detail; all traditional with many disgusting old men caricatures and powdered wigs. And it was fun to see Peter Mayhew <3 who I got all fluttery about since I have been such a huge SW fan.
Anyone think of a short I should animate?

sicklin picklin
still stuck to the couch sick, but I'm medicated now so hopefully I'll be back on my heels this weekend in time for comic class! I've just been sitting on my ass for two weeks so there's not much news, except I've been really enjoying Julie Doucet's My Secret Desire and much of Aline Kominsky-Crumb's work. I'm working on a long research paper of interesting autobiographical women's comic creators. I've got a long list and personal interviews by me or my friends with three of the artists so far.
Here's something from my sketchbook I made a couple weeks ago when Jesse and I were taking the long greyhound ride from Missouri to Chicago.
